Under the Article 12 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union, I am required to provide information on what and how I process your personal data.

Who am I?

This is my personal website, so I, Tien Nguyen Thanh, am the data controller. You can contact me via email at tien.nguyen@uni-bonn.de for any complaints.

Data collected by the hosting platform (GitLab Pages)

This website is hosted on GitLab Pages, operated by GitLab Inc., and hence GitLab collects data as the infrastructure provider. As stated in their privacy statement:

For websites published using GitLab Pages, we [GitLab Inc.] collect server access logs containing website visitor IP addresses with time of access and pages visited within the site. This data is kept for 7 -days and then it is disposed of on a rolling basis with new logs. Any other data collected is subject to the website publisher’s own privacy statement.

This service access log data is independently managed and stored by GitLab. I do not access or process this data in any way.

Saving your theme preference

This website comes in two visual themes: a light and a dark theme. To provide a better user experience across sessions, the website stores your active theme selection locally on your device. This information is only retrieved to load your chosen theme upon your next visit.

This information in form of a single key-value pair (theme: dark or theme: light) is stored locally on your device by using your browser's native localStorage interface. In particular, this data is never transmitted to me or any other third party, and persists indefinitely until you clear your local browser data.

Is other data processed?

No additional data is processed by me or any other third party, including any analytics, tracking, social media plugins or cookies. The assets used on this website, including the fonts Fontawesome and IBM Plex, are self-hosted, so no network connection to external servers or other third party Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) are made.

Your rights regarding personal data

Under the GDPR, you as the data subject have rights concerning your personal data, including the right to access, retrieve, rectify or delete such data.

Since this website does not process or collect any of your personal data remotely, I cannot do anything to access, modify or delete data. Regarding your service access log data collected by GitLab Pages upon connection, please file an inquiry with them, GitLab Inc.

If you want to report a complaint or if you feel that I handle your data inappropriately, you can contact your national Data Protection Authority (DPA).
